The return of the Bourbons to the throne with Alphonse XII gave the necessary coherence and strength to the state army to win the war. Once the outbreak in the Maestrazgo had ended in 1875, all activities were focused on the northern front (Basque country and Navarra), defeating the rebel forces at the end of the winter in 1876. The pretender crossed the border on February 27th 1876 and on July 21st that same year the Alphonsine’s courts approved the end of the fueros.
