THE MYTHS OF THE CARLISM. THE PRIEST OF SANTA CRUZ AND MONTEJURRA

The Second Carlist War contributed with new features to the war myths that had already started during the First War. The most notorious fighter was the priest of Santa Cruz (1842-1926), a defiant, traditionalist, violent, audacious and charismatic clergyman who ended up fighting against his own military commanders. The last war also gave birth to magical places, such as Montejurra (Navarra) an area that after the battle on November 9th 1873 became one of the Carlism’s symbols and a lasting reference that endures overtime.
